CovidRobots: robots for mass COVID-19 testing
Objective
CovidRobots is a civil society initiative launched in early March 2020 by five professionals from diverse fields of expertise, including our colleague Sandra Figaredo from Public Affairs.
The team brought together scientists and technology experts. It also enabled logistical and administrative capabilities with the crucial support of various companies and collaboration from public entities—all with one goal: saving lives through PCR diagnostics. Robotic stations were set up in Spain to automate the processing of PCR samples. This greatly increased the number of tests conducted and enhanced COVID-19 detection.
Solution
Thanks to the dedication of individuals, companies, and institutions, 17 hospitals were equipped with 185 robots, playing an essential role in the fight against the pandemic. Fundación LLYC contributed to this initiative by coordinating and promoting the project with the help of company volunteers.
Impact
CovidRobots garnered widespread attention in both print and digital media.
