Objective
Raising awareness among parents, families, and caregivers of individuals with Trisomy 21 about how proper identification can transform lives.
Solution
#Eutambémconto0123 is a national awareness campaign launched on World Down Syndrome Day, March 21, by the parents and members of PAIS21 – Down Portugal. Its mission is to educate parents, families, and caregivers of individuals with Trisomy 21 about the importance of identifying and assessing the number of people with Down syndrome. This data is essential to understand the scale of the community and make a meaningful impact on their lives.
Currently, Portugal lacks a comprehensive count of individuals with Trisomy 21 because it has never been prioritized in institutional agendas. Knowing this figure is crucial for shaping policies, planning education, healthcare, security, and transport services, and effectively allocating resources.
Impact
Over 20 media features across radio, TV, print, and online platforms—more than 4,500 views across four campaign videos and significant social media reach. Over 300 parents and guardians of children with T21 participated in the Census 21.
We wanted to demonstrate that, against common stereotypes, people with Trisomy 21 can lead independent and vibrant lives. They go to school, work, drive cars, and travel the world. The families who participated in this project and contributed their stories were essential. They shared their experiences— the challenges, the frustrations, and most importantly, their proud accomplishments.
